There are many things a camper will need to gather before he heads out to the wilds. Tarps are an important part of any camper’s supplies especially if they are staying in one spot for a long time. Tarps will have many handy uses in a camp site. One of the most obvious will be over a tent to provide extra protection from the elements. You may even find one under a tent to reduce the cold and damp that comes up from the ground. If you place one over your tent you will find it does several things. The air space between it and the tent will serve as insulation keeping you warmer on cold nights. The tarp itself will also add protection against rain.
One very good thing about tarps is that they do not take much space to bring along. They fold up very flat and you can bring many to cover much of your campsite if you expect a rainy trip. This will allow you to keep a dry space for preparing food and storing camp wood. Camping can still be very enjoyable in wet weather if you have prepared you camp site well and provided some additional cover. An experienced camper can stay dry in even the worst elements as long as they don’t last too long.
You will be able to find almost any size of tarp you could need. Tarps come in many sizes even large enough to cover a large boat. Some tarps may even be custom designed to fit a boat or car body when it is in storage. This will protect their surfaces while not in use and reduce the risk of moisture entering the vehicles.
