Route: Park at the Mason Lake Trailhead and start up the same trail. Very early (100 meters?) the trail turns hard-right and a faint trail continues straight. Take the straight trail. This traverses west and slowly up a good mile or so before switch-backing up towards west defiance. The last half mile before tree-line the trail is very sparse, and once above treeline, you're on your own.
Coments: Easy to lose the trail shortly before treeline. Stay to the East of the mini-talus field in the woods.
