Once again we were blessed with unseasonably warm weather of about 75F, and not a cloud to be seen. Without wasting any time we departed the trailhead around 5:45 PM and the bulk of the group hit the summit around 7:40 PM or so.
There was little snow to be seen, only a bit remaining on the lee side of the ridge climb up towards the top. We did run into two other groups of hikers along the way which is rather unusual, our little known Mailbox hike is getting popular! Larry was found waiting for the group at the summit, he had started earlier than the main group on his first TNAB hike of the '04 season.
The summit is getting crowded, in addition to the mailbox there is now a fire hydrant, ladder, newspaper bin and other assorted goodies strew about. On the way out we were treated to a spectacular sunset and slight more than half a moon that was glowing bring enough for us to hike all but the deepest part of the woods without headlamps (Ok, ok, some of the group may have forgotten their headlamps :)
Next week: West Defiance Mountain
