Hello, TNAB'ers:
Last week, the weather wasn't fit for man nor beast, let alone hikers. The rain fell in sheets, and muddy rivers appeared from where trails once stood. What a difference a week can make!
This week, the sun shone late, well past 6:30 pm, and then a 2/3 full moon and stars lit up the night's sky. Encouraged by such great weather, tonight's group executed the "Don" variation route: hike to the summit of Tiger II, traverse to Tiger III, and return home. Starting at the trailhead to the Cable trail, we took a left on the main Tiger Mountain trail, traversing for quite a ways, with the occasional switchback.
An unmarked spur to the right began our ascent to Tiger II. Once atop, we were treated to a spectacular sunset over the Olympics and Puget Sound. Rainier was of course present, as was peek-a-boo view of Glacier Peak. Easily the polar opposite of last week! The descent back to the cars was without incident, although it did get chilly as night fell.
A hearty welcome to TNAB newcomers Mike and John! I promise, guys, next week is Dirty Harry's!
