Matt's Hike Summary: The View from Kaleetan

There is a stunning view from the top of Kaleetan
too bad we did't get to see it!

It would have been a tad on the dark side if we had continued to the summit, so we called off the hike on the ridge above Melakwa lakes. Nice sunset in any case - but too darn early! Summer is coming to an end. well. sorta. it was plenty warm still. It's a gorgeous area, although bit of a trek in at 4.5 miles to the lake and then the ridge run. Trail for the ridge was easy to find - just follow the signs for outhouse when you reach the lake. Bugs are finally calming down, and it's a bit hazy, but Rainier was at least visible. And I settled and old nagging question I had about where I had gone for a quick overnight back in 1993 when I was out in Seattle for a summer. It was pretty socked in during that trip, but the topography of the lake / lower valley looked similar enough to recognize the place.
