Slightly belated trip report for last Thursday's hike, but I have a good excuse: congrats to Gretchen, Mark, Ania, Russ, Joan (and myself) for a Rainier summit up the Kautz route on Saturday! Fantastic summit day, very very clear, great views, although a bit windy.
Anyway, back to last Thursday, which was also a great hike on Defiance. Mason lake was a little chillier than last year, but about half the crew took the plunge which was most refreshing. The upper meadow is still gorgeous with flowers, and great views from on top, but the legendary Defiance Mosquito swarm was in full effect as well so we didn't dally on the summit for long.
